B-Day Ding — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

B-Day Ding (“the app”) is a birthday reminder app operated by Syntopia (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

In short: B-Day Ding is a local-first app. The birthdays, names, dates, notes, photos, groups and reminder settings you enter stay on your device. We do not use analytics or advertising, and we never sell your data. The only information that leaves your device is: what is needed to process the optional one-time “Pro” purchase; anonymous crash diagnostics; and — only if you turn on the optional “Read from a screenshot” feature and use it — a screenshot you choose, sent to be read and then discarded, plus an anonymous record of how many screenshots you have had read, which we keep only to enforce the usage limit.

1. Data stored on your device

All content you create — names, birth dates, optional notes, optional photos, groups, and reminder preferences — is stored locally on your device in the app’s local storage. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party, and it is removed when you delete the app.

2. Contacts and Calendar (optional)

If you choose to import birthdays from your contacts, the app asks permission to read your device contacts. Contact data is used only to let you pick people and their birthdays, is processed entirely on your device, and is not transmitted to us or stored anywhere outside your device. You can decline this permission and add birthdays manually.

If you choose to import birthdays from your calendar, the app asks permission to read your device calendars. Calendar events are read only to find birthdays you already have, are processed entirely on your device, and are not transmitted to us or stored anywhere outside your device. You can decline this permission and add birthdays manually.

3. Reading birthdays from a screenshot (optional, off by default)

The app includes an optional “Read from a screenshot” feature, which is turned off by default. You enable it yourself with a toggle in Settings → Data → Import. The app works fully without it, and while it is off nothing related to it ever leaves your device.

When you enable it and pick a screenshot (for example of your Facebook birthdays page), that single image is sent to our reader service and to the AI provider we use to read text, Anthropic, only to extract the names and dates shown in it. The image and the extracted text are used solely to return those birthdays to you — neither the image nor the extracted text is stored by us, neither is used to build any profile, and neither is sold or shared for any other purpose. You choose which screenshot to send each time, and you can turn the feature off at any time.

To enforce the usage limit on this feature, our reader service stores an anonymous per-install identifier (provided by our billing provider, RevenueCat) together with a count of how many screenshots have been read. It is not linked to your name or to the contents of your list. We keep that record for 24 months after your most recent screenshot read, then delete it; if it is deleted, your free allowance starts again.

Anthropic processes the image as our service provider under its own terms: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy

4. Notifications

The app schedules local reminder notifications through your device’s operating system. They are generated and delivered on-device; we do not have access to them.

5. Sending wishes (Pro feature)

The one-tap “send wish” feature opens your chosen messaging app (e.g. SMS, WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram) with a message pre-filled. The message is composed on your device and you decide whether to send it. We do not send messages on your behalf and we do not receive or store their content. Once you hand off to another app, that app’s own privacy policy applies.

6. Purchases (Pro unlock)

The optional one-time “Pro” unlock is sold through Google Play’s billing system and managed by RevenueCat, Inc., our payments/entitlement provider. To process and restore your purchase, the following leaves your device:

This information is used solely to verify your purchase, keep your Pro features unlocked, and let you restore your purchase on a new device. It is not linked to the birthday data on your device. Google and RevenueCat process this data under their own policies:

7. Crash and error reports

When something in the app goes wrong, a diagnostic report is sent to Sentry so we can find and fix it. A report contains:

Reports are deliberately stripped of personal content. We switch off Sentry’s collection of IP addresses and user identifiers, we discard request data, and we keep only in-app navigation breadcrumbs. No name, birth date, photo, note, or contact is ever included in a crash report.

Crash data is processed in the European Union (Sentry’s EU region). Sentry acts as our processor under the GDPR: https://sentry.io/privacy/

8. What we don’t do

9. Data retention and deletion

Your app data lives on your device for as long as the app is installed. You can delete individual entries in the app, or remove all data by uninstalling the app. Purchase records held by Google and RevenueCat are retained by those providers under their policies; contact us to request information about purchase data associated with you.

Apart from those purchase records and the crash diagnostics described in section 7, the only data we hold on a server about your use of the app is the anonymous screenshot-reading record described in section 3. We delete it 24 months after your most recent screenshot read.

10. Children

B-Day Ding is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

11. Your rights (EU/EEA/UK)

Syntopia is based in Bulgaria (EU). Because the app is local-first, we do not hold your birthday or contact data. For the limited purchase data processed via RevenueCat and Google, and the diagnostic crash data processed via Sentry, you have rights under the GDPR (access, correction, deletion, objection). Contact office@syntopia.bg and we will help, including directing requests to the relevant provider.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be noted by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
